REBEL MAYHEM presents
REBEL UNDEAD, the AZ film challenge that refuses to die. Filmmakers from all over the state of AZ will compete for the recognition
of a film community as well as huge CASH PRIZES and certificate based awards in one of Indie Cinema’s most beloved horror
genres. Filmmakers are challenged to produce a 3-7 minute film in the month of February that centers itself around one of
the two fundamental types of undead creature, i.e. Zombies or Vampires.
PREMIERE EVENT:
Unlike other Film
Challenges, Rebel will screen all entrant challenge films in one exciting premiere event in Mid April.
Cash Award will be paid no later than
21 days from the night of the Screening Event.
PRIZES AND AWARDS
1st place
-
$1000.00
****Qualifying films
will be;
-delivered
on-time, in the proper file format and according to all REBEL MAYHEM technical specifications.
-the sole creative property of the submitting
filmmaker. All elements of the film, including but not limited to its sounds, footage and the film’s score/musical accompaniment
should be owned or properly licensed.
-submitted with an official REBEL MAYHEM release form no later than midnight March 23rd 2011.
-produced in accordance
with all contest rules.
-at least 3 minutes in length and no more than 7 minutes in length including film credits.
-films that include no less than 9 (nine)
speaking characters.
-films that include a HORDE of no less than 15 Zombies/Vampires. ****though it may be obvious to some what
constitutes the behavior and appearance of a Zombie or Vampire, for sake of this requirement, 15 additional extras (or additional
speaking characters) will suffice despite their outward appearance or subjective status as a member of the undead. All
films should have a total acting cast of no less than 24 people.
****NO CAST OVERLAP: This means that a Rebel Undead Filmmaker
is PROHIBITED from using any actor that has participated in any other REBEL UNDEAD film. Cast overlap, even if accidental,
is grounds for disqualification. Precedence in this matter is reserved by the film first submitted. Crew Overlap is not only
allowed, but common.
WINNERS AND JUDGING:
A {Rebel Undead} winner will be decided by a point system in 3 separate categories. There are 7 total points
possible in a perfect score.
****Cash
Prizes are awarded by audience vote and peer review judging, not contest organizers.
Certificate based awards will be decided by contest organizers.
JUDGES RANKING: 3 points for top rated, 2 points for 2nd rated and 1 point for
3rd rated. This means that the film with the most judges votes will win 3 points, the 2nd 2 points and
the 3rd 1 point.
Who will
judge the films?: YOU WILL! All entrant filmmakers will be provided a 2 sided
voting card the night of the festival event. Each Filmmaker will be allowed to vote for their 2 favorite films. Each of these
votes will be considered equal. At the end of the night these votes will be tallied for a 1st, 2nd and
3rd place JUDGES RANKING.
Why 2 votes?: Some filmmakers will vote for their two top favorite films whether either of
those films were their own. Some will vote for their own film, then a second film that they enjoyed. In either case, the most
enjoyable film is receiving the most votes, in theory. This is an effort to eliminate partiality.
AUDIENCE RANKING: 3 points for top rated, 2 points for 2nd
rated and 1 point for 3rd rated. This means that the film with the most audience votes will win 3 points, the 2nd
2 points and the 3rd 1 point. Audience members will also vote for 2 films, to avoid the BATTLE OF THE BANDS SYNDROME.
PUBLICITY: 1 point will be given to the film that develops the most
facebook fans on the film’s official facebook fan page. A facebook page is not required. Proof of
these numbers and a link to the fanpage will need to be sent to contest organizers at gcclayton@netzero.com the day of the festival event. The winner will be the official page with
the most fans as of 12 noon show day. This facebook fan page must be a "fan page" not a group of friend page.
IN THE EVENT OF A TIE:
The following will be the order of determination.
1:)The actual number of Audience votes will determine advancement.
2:)The actual number of Judges votes will determine advancement.
3:)If all of these numbers are equal, the cash prize will
be distributed amongst the tied entrants.
When attributing points based upon ranking in both peer review and audience
categories, films that tie will both/all receive the alotted point value for said ranking.
ALL FINISHED FILMS will be released via initial competition release
form for inclusion on the REBEL UNDEAD DVD. Filmmakers will not be compensated for their film, but distribution rights will
be limited to 90 days and all rights retained by film producer. The contest organizers consider the film entrant the same
as its producer.
